One happy Bundaberg local received the present of a lifetime while sharing a few drinks to celebrate her birthday with her partner and friends at the Brothers Sports Club last week.
The 42-year-old mother of four was thrilled to win the $1.16 million Keno jackpot; mentioning that she “still feel(s) like it’s a dream”. In an incredible coincidence, the winner used her birth date, birth year and age to pick her winning ticket.
Keno spokesman Nick Quinn was also delighted for the local winner. “It’s always nice to hear when a regular Keno player and loyal sporting club patron wins a Keno jackpot” he said, “I hope the winner and her family get a lot of happiness from this jackpot.”
Planning to continue on at a Bundaberg hospital where she has worked as a patient diet monitor for almost 10 years, the winner was excited at the opportunities the win presented. She’s planning on finishing her studies to become a dietician, giving some money to her children, investing and possibly buying a house. “From going fortnight to fortnight, I can’t believe I’m now able to give money away” she said.
It was a fortunate turn of events that the winning ticket was actually bought, and in fact the winner wasn’t even watching when the jackpot went off on the big screens! “I wouldn’t normally buy a Keno ticket on a weekday but my boyfriend and I were both on holidays so we decided to go into the club” commented the winner, “[and] I normally only play six numbers but I decided to play 10.” Getting the ticket casually checked at the counter, she was shocked to discover the good news.
Spending just $20 on 20 $1 games, the winning numbers were: 2, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 19, 29, 42 and 72.
This was the second Keno jackpot of more than a million dollars won in Central Queensland this month, after another local couple won $1.74 million at the Maryborough Sports Club on the 2nd of October. Luck certainly seems to be in the Queensland air!
